Shore Drift & Surfs Reach are two award winning properties located in the picturesque coastal village of West Wittering, south of Chichester, Surrey. The homes mark the third successful development in which PDP provided full services for our private client. Building upon our previous projects in the area, these homes reflect our commitment to thoughtful design and innovative solutions.
PDP overcame a series of site constraints posed by the proximity of existing properties through thoughtful and creative design solutions which responded to neighbouring needs as well as the design brief. This included lowering the roof and stepping the first floor accommodation to allow sightlines to be maintained to the rear of the properties. Following a rigorous planning process which yielded three approvals, we proceeded to develop and submit building regulations and tender packages for the project. Throughout the construction phase we acted as Contract Administrators on a traditional JCT contract.
Each residence provides a distinct architectural identity through the use of external material treatment, blending white render with complementary timber cladding or buff brick to integrate harmoniously into the street scene. Dark grey windows provide a striking contrast against the light interior, adding visual interest.
The dwellings are designed as 1.5 storey homes with vaulted ceilings and roof lights bathing the upstairs bedrooms in natural light while preserving privacy for residents and neighbours alike. The ground floor features expansive open-plan living areas with glazed bi-fold doors framing the view into the generous rear gardens.
Recognised for their excellence in workmanship, design and project team collaboration, Shore Drift & Surfs Reach won the regional final of the LABC Building Awards in 2023, receiving high commendations at the national final in London. This award underscores the success of the project, which was completed in April 2022.
