On what was considered to be a challenging site with strong opposition from local residents to see it developed, PDP Architecture LLP alongside planning consultants Iceni Projects were able to secure a planning consent for our client Mayfair 500 for a scheme of 42 apartments and a commercial unit.

Previous schemes for the site had met opposition from local residents, so it was proposed to engage in a Planning Performance Agreement (PPA) with Lambeth Borough Council which saw the council’s planners and the design team work together to find the right solution for the site.

The design solution was to form an ordered terrace building with larger ‘book end’ buildings at each end to frame the composition. This reflected the character of the surrounding terraced residential streets, but was articulated using modern forms and detailing.

Planning consent was granted in April 2014, with work due on site early in 2015.
