PDP Architecture were asked to design three affordable dwellings for Winchester City Council as the first new build affordable homes built by the council for over 20 years.
The site in Otterbourne was a redundant garage court at the end of a small development of 1950’s council houses.
The design approach was to replicate the scale and massing of the existing semi-detached dwellings but to extend the form into three terraced houses to maximise the site. The roof was pitched and hipped and the main material was red facing brick to reflect the surrounding houses although the front elevation was articulated in both the fenestration and extending porches in a contemporary form. The use of grey zinc and large fenestration continued the contemporary theme.
FE Chase were the contractor and the development was completed in August 2014.
